Do storks return to the same nest every year?
Along with members of the White Stork Research Group, we decided to investigate this! It turns out that although very often this is indeed the case, similar to many other species, whether a bird will return to a previously occupied nest depends on the breeding success in the previous season and the age of the individual. The answer to this question was made possible through intensive marking of storks in western and southwestern Poland, which allowed us to gather an impressive collection of nearly seven hundred records of individuals (i.e., ring resights) dating back to 1990.
