How migratory birds change their immunity during preparation to migration
Together with our colleagues from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, we have published research on changes in the immunity of young common quails. Under experimental conditions in captivity, we demonstrated that when preparing for migration, several components of constitutive immune functions can undergo significant changes. This represents a trade-off between the accumulation of fat necessary for a successful migration and maintaining a sufficient immune response against pathogens.
